Funding

Check out these amazing courgettes I managed to harvest today. Please feel free, if you are passing, to pop in and take a look if any courgettes are needing to be harvested. They ideally should be picked 3 times a week to keep more coming, so feel free to help yourself. See this guide here on how to pick and store them.

Not sure what to do with courgettes, try some recipe ideas here.

Today I headed over to the garden before the sun becomes too unbearable to work in. I got some weeding and watering done, all under the watchful eyes off Bray, my youngest dog, who has been unwell the past week or so. He seems to be feeling better and enjoying the sun.

It was great to see members of the community in the garden today, dog walking, this is your local green space so please do use it. Just be mindful of the other users and us as growers and please do take any litter home with you as well and clean up after your dog.

Something that is really important during these times is food production and distribution, and we know this as community gardens have been allowed to operate, along with allotments and other food growing projects throughout the lock-down here in the UK. Here at Fintry Community Garden we want to do the most we can to contribute towards the effort and have been looking at how we can really expand our production of food for the locals of Fintry.

A polytunnel is an asset all community gardens benefit from, with most community gardens in the city already having them, so we have been considering searching for funding for one, however, we know from other gardens that these are often vandalised. This is such as shame as so much hard work and dedication goes into community growing, predominately from volunteers in their own time. On considering this, one of our volunteers has come across these much more durable and sustainable polytunnels which we are looking to find funding for. We would welcome your thoughts on these polytunnels and the installation of one here in Fintry Community Garden as well as any funding sources you may be aware of that we could potentially approach. Please do get in touch if you can help. Check out this website for further detail and see the pictures below for examples.

Here are some photos from today, which I have also popped on the Gallery page.
