Autumn is here

It has been a while since we last wrote and published a blog, apologies for our followers, it's been a busy few months (outwith the community garden), we did, however, hold our Annual General Meeting, which you can go and read about here.

The big news from the AGM was our successful application to the National Lottery Community Fund, where we have been awarded an amazing amount just short of £10,000. It is amazing news and we are so very pleased and grateful for this award and recognition of our small project here in Fintry, Dundee.

From this grant, we are looking to purchase a Polycrub, which is a type of sustainable and durable polytunnel, you can read more about these here and see one below.

So today, I headed out to get some of the raised beds, if you can call them raised, they are only one board tall, prepared for winter. I managed to do a few of the beds but there are still some crops growing away so I didn't manage to get them all ready for the winter. The plan is to have a fairly big harvest and take this to either the new Food Larder at the Fintry Church or take it to the church service one Sunday. I had some helpers today, in the form of my two sons, who enjoyed getting wet, dirty and generally messy. Alistair popped along also so it was a productive day.

I am eagerly awaiting Huw Richards releasing his latest YouTube video, which is going to be all about preparing beds for the winter, but do check out his YouTube channel as its a great resource, as well as Huw's books:

As always, I forgot to take "before" pictures, but here are some of the beds now after our work today

What is really important to us as a community garden is we don't waste food. Please do pop over to the garden and have a look at what crops we have, see if anything takes your fancy. This is a community garden so feel free to take what you need and want. Some of the crops we currently have on-site are as follows and you can check out the links to see when and how to harvest these:
